We at Aid & Abet just love the fall season, and this year is no exception! We’ve got lots of colorful, radical folks in the news and on the road — leadin’ workshops, makin’ art, playin’ music, and speakin’ out. And, the coming months look to be just as exciting and eventful! Don’t forget that fall is the right time to make plans for winter and spring, so if you’re interested in bringing someone on our roster to a venue near you, please get in touch now before it’s too late!
Aid & Abet is looking for an intern!
Before we get to the roster rundown, here’s an important announcement for all you college students and/or curious individuals wanting to learn the ropes of publicity and promotion: Aid & Abet is looking for an intern! No experience necessary, but you must be able to commit to several hours of work each week. For more details, contact Jen.
Now, without further ado, here’s a sample of what’s been happening lately!
Cristy Road spent the month of September in Europe with the radical queer performance roadshow Sister Spit: The Next Generation. In November, Cristy will be touring the Southern U.S. doing readings and lectures at colleges and infoshops from Miami to New Orleans, Atlanta and back to New York. She will be accompanied for the first half of the tour with her punk band The Homewreckers. Check our Upcoming Events page for more info.
Over the past month, Anne Elizabeth Moore completed a mini tour around Illinois and a trip to New York City. The former included an interview for Bob McChesney’s globally acclaimed radio program “Media Matters” that will air in November. A full tour of the Northeast is in the works for March 2010. More details to come!
Sabrina Chapadjiev will be leading a “Rage to Page” workshop and presenting at a conference at Bard College entitled, “Transformation of Suffering through Art Practice” on December 7th. She has also been invited to participate in the annual Reproductive Rights Conference at Hampshire College next April. In the meantime, she is busy playing shows in support of her latest musical endeavor–her new album “Oompa!”
Shira Tarrant, author of Men & Feminism, just completed a week of talks on the East Coast. She’ll be heading to the Midwest in February, so get in touch now if you’re interested in hosting her.
The Prometheus Radio Project is embarking on a US tour in March and April, and will be visiting the South, Southwest, and Midwest. They are offering three different workshops during the tour and are working with community organizations along the way.
The Beehive Collective is criss-crossing the country with their presentations including one on the true cost of coal. Drop us a line to make sure they stop in your area.
Last month marked the 43rd anniversary of the Black Panther Party, with several special events in Oakland and elsewhere to commemorate the occasion. We are still on the lookout for venues – particularly colleges and universities – to host photograph, newspaper, and memorabilia exhibits of the Black Panther Party, as well as radical underground newspapers of the 1960s and 1970s. These enlightening, informative exhibits offer a rare opportunity for students — both activists and non-activists — to view important past struggles for social justice and true equality. “A picture is worth a thousand words,” so please get in touch!
Two other Black Panthers continue to be available for talks across the U.S. — Malik Rahim, co-founder of Common Ground Relief in New Orleans; and Robert Hillary King, the only freed member of The Angola 3. Please contact Justine if you’re interested in hearing either of them in your city or town.
And, last but certainly not least, we are actively booking for the PM Press menagerie of authors, filmmakers, artists and others — so please let us know if you’d like to get connected with any member of that motley crew!
Friendly reminder: Stay in the Aid & Abet loop!
If you haven’t already done so, please sign up for our listserve. You’ll get announcements about upcoming tours and campaigns every month or so (not more often than that, we promise!). AND, if you’re on Facebook, please join our Group (”Aid & Abet Booking”). AND, PLEASE PASS IT ON! Thank you, thank you!
Autumnal cheers,
Justine, Matt & Jen (Aid & Abet)
