Ted Nace, author of Climate Hope: On the Front Lines of the Fight Against Coal
It's not too often that we get to celebrate a truly successful movement. Here at Aid & Abet we've been fortunate enough to work with Ted Nace, helping to publicize his new book Climate Hope: On the Front Lines of the Fight Against Coal.
Climate Hope profiles the organizing methods and political tactics that have enabled activists across the United States to stop (by late 2009) at least 109 of 151 new coal-fired power plants proposed by the Energy Department in 2007. This amazingly successful movement is comprised almost exclusively of local and regional grassroots movements - and these are powerful lessons during a time when the fight against climate change and corporate dominance are critical.
Ted has been doing vital work on this area, and much of his extensive research can be found at CoalSwarm, an information clearinghouse on US and International coal mines, plants, companies, politics, impacts, and alternatives.
We've been working with Ted to help him outreach to radio shows around the U.S. You can listen to his recent interviews with Against the Grain and Radio EcoShock, and check out his blog post on Grist. We'll post more as they become available.
